Join the Seattle Wind Symphony’s Star-Spangled Spectacular!

The Seattle Wind Symphony is looking for 200 piccolo players to join us in our 5th annual Star Spangled Spectacular at Benaroya Hall on July 3, 2017.

The piccolo section will join the band on the finale of the concert to include Goldman’s Chimes of Liberty, and Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever.

Our program is a salute to Americana and patriotic music of the USA and will include Dave Beck (KING-FM) narrator, Seattle soprano Alexandra Picard, and the Seattle Wind Symphony choir, under the direction of Dr. Linda Gingrich.

Repertoire

Goldman’s Chimes of Liberty, and Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever.

Chimes of Liberty, m. 41-73, Second time only

Stars and Stripes Forever, m. 95-first ending. Both times of this final strain.

There is not enough room on stage for music stands so we ask that you memorize both of these trio sections.

Piccolo Coordinator

Sara Jolivet, Piccolo@SeattleWindSymphony.org.

Piccolo Rehearsals (required)

We ask that you attend two rehearsals to prepare for the concert. The first rehearsal will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Bellevue High School on Sunday, July 2. We will rehearse piccolos alone for 30 minutes and then join the Seattle Wind Symphony at 7 pm that evening. We will be finished by 7:30. Parking is available free in the school’s parking lot outside the auditorium.

The dress rehearsal will be on July 3, at 5:00 p.m. in Benaroya Hall in Seattle and you should plan to arrive no later than 4:40 p.m. Parking is available in the Benaroya Hall lot, on the street, or in nearby garages. Please enter the hall from the performer’s entrance and take the elevator to the backstage area. You will be met there by members of the Seattle Wind Symphony who will assist with warmup space and escorting you to the stage. Much of this rehearsal will be taken by the logistics of getting this many piccolo players on and off stage in an orderly fashion. We will also play through both of the marches on stage with the Symphony.

Performance

Monday July 3, Benaroya Hall, 7:30 PM

Requirements

Ability to play and memorize the solo piccolo part to the trio sections of Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" and Goldman's "Chimes of Liberty". Music will be provided later this spring.
